We’re recruiting special constables! 

Being a special is exciting, challenging and above all, meaningful. You’ll volunteer to work alongside frontline officers to make our local communities feel safe and supported.

Typical duties include assisting at the scene of accidents and carrying out high visibility foot patrols.

You will also engage with our communities through public events and be part of the team that keeps our city safe at night.

If successful, you will be part of our March 2026 cohort.

You will need:

• To be aged 18+ or 17 at the time of application but 18 by the time you are appointed

• Be able to pass our fitness test, reaching level 5.4 on a 15-metre shuttle run

• Not currently undertaking a restricted occupation

The important bits:

⏰ Hours: Commit to a minimum of 16 hours of volunteering per month with the cost of travel and expenses covered (conditions apply)
